Responsibility chain certification

J. Pinto Leitão, SA, represented by Management, is committed to implementing and maintaining the chain of custody requirements of the FSC® and PEFCTM standards, namely compliance with the values recommended by FSC, particularly those described in the "Policy for the Association of Organizations with FSC "(FSC-POL-01-004 originally approved in July 2009). This policy is signed by the Company`s Management and publicly available.

J. Pinto Leitão, S.A. declares not to be directly or indirectly involved in the following activities:

a) Cutting of illegal timber or illegal trade in timber or timber products;

b) Violation of traditional and human rights in forest operations;

c) Destruction of high value attributes for conservation in forest operations;

d) Significant conversion of forests into plantations or non-forest use;

e) Introduction of genetically modified organisms in forest operations;

f) Violation of any of the ILO Conventions (ILO Core Conventions) as defined in the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, 1998.

 

J. Pinto Leitão, SA declares, on the basis of its better knowledge of the material provided, that the supply of forest-based material does not come from genetically modified forest material or derived from controversial sources, ie forest activities that:

(a) They do not comply with local, national or international legislation, with application to forest-related activities, in particular those related to the following areas:

  • Forest and logging operations, including conservation of biodiversity and conversion of forests to other uses;
  • Management of classified areas of high environmental and cultural values;
  • Protected and threatened species, including CITES requirements;
  • Health and labor issues of forestry workers;
  • Rights of possession, ownership and use of indigenous peoples;
  • Ownership, ownership and use rights of third parties;
  • Payment of taxes and fees.

(b) They do not comply with the legislation of the country where the logging was carried out in relation to trade and customs obligations referring to the forestry sector.

(c) They use genetically modified forest material.

(d) They convert forests to other types of vegetation, including conversion of primary forests to forest plantations.
